About Spiddal
An Spidéal, or Spiddal as it's called in English, is a small seaside village on the West coast of Ireland. Located just 12 miles West of Galway city An Spidéal is a vibrant friendly town where the people speak both Irish and English. Indeed if you visit during the summer months you will probably notice groups of teenagers who come to the village for 3 week courses to learn Irish. The signposts are all in the Irish language and you will hear it spoken in the shops, pubs and restaurants. Most people will be more than happy to teach you a couple of words if you ask.
The village is really on the Eastern boundary of the region called Connemara and as such is a good starting point for your journey into this unique part of Ireland rich in tradition and spectacular raw beauty only found in this area.
In terms of restaurants you can choose from The Cruiscin Lan Hotel, or the Boluisce Restaurant both located in the village itself or Jackie's Bistro located in the Ceardlann - Spiddal Craft Centre. There is also Padraigin's restaurant and bar by the beach in Furbo 3 mile East and Donnelly's or The Twelve in Barna village 7 miles East on the way to Galway.
